Director of Photography

With over 25 years of production experience, Ames has worked on a variety of productions including features, documentaries, television series, commercials and industrials. His wide range of technical experience with multiple camera systems and platforms such as steadicams, aerial photography, process trailers and Phantom high-speed cameras gives him the ability to design and pull off demanding shots.

His desire to use the camera to tell stories visually has taken him to locations all over the globe including: Australia, Guatemala, China, Canada, Hawaii, Africa and over 40 states in the continental U.S.. With his security clearances including a FBI background check and his reputation as a dependable cameraman, he has interacted with a variety of law enforcement agencies such as the FBI and ATF at some of the most secure facilities in the world as well as being chosen by NASA to shoot highly classified projects and space shuttle landings at Edwards Air Force Base. His clients include : The U.S. Army, General Dynamics, NASA /Dryden Research Center, Marriott, Colonial Williamsburg, Proactiv, Christopher Newport University, The Discovery Channel, UNICEF, United Space Alliance, Dupont, Family Channel, Hyundai, Alpine, Veria Network, ABC/Touchstone Television and E! Entertainment.

When he is not shooting, Ames works as a production consultant and enjoys teaching all aspects of cinematography and has been a guest instructor for The Los Angeles Film Studies Center, California State University Northridge, University of the Nations, Palm Beach Atlantic, Regent University and Bethel University.

His genuine understanding of visual story telling through lighting and camerawork  has made him a  part of a number of award winning productions which received such awards as: Telly Awards, Addy Awards, (NADA) National Automotive Dealership Award, Service Industry Advertising Award, (CAB) Cable Television Advertising Bureau Award, INTERCOM Gold Plaque winner and The Videographer Awards Award of Excellence.

Ames received his master’s degree in Communications from the Regent University.
